[D] Iliosuchus incognitus [sG] [T]
Describer
Huene, 1932
Time
Jurassic Middle Bathonian
Classification
Saurischia Theropoda Tetanurae ?Carnosauria
Diet
Carnivore
Fossilsite
Great Oolite, Stonefield Slate, Oxfordsshire, England
Info
Genus - Typespecies
2 ilia
The single species I.incognitus [Holotype: BMNH R83 incomplete ilium] is known from two isolated ilia. These ilia exhibit a well developed vertical ridge extending from the acetabular region. In no case is such a ilium known from a skeleton not carnosaurian. This suggest that I.incognitus is a carnosaur, but in abcense of futher characters, this referral must be considered tenuous.
Rauhut suggests that Iliosuchus might conceivably represent another Jurassic tyrannosauroid, though he does say that more material is needed to establish this. Apparently an ilium referred to Iliosuchus [OUM 29871] has an elongate pubic peduncle.
