Description
Published in B. P. Perez-Moreno, T. R. Holtz, Jr., J. L. Sanz & J. Moratalla , eds., Aspects of Theropoda Paleobiology, Gaia 15: 89-102 [cover dated December 1998 but published in the autumn of 2000. I. aguadagrandensis is classified as a basal abelisaurian sister group to Abelisauridae + [Noasauridae]. First reported by Coria, Salgado and Calvo in 1991, as the sister group to Abelisauridae and [Noasauridae].
Ethymology
Mapcuhe ilo = \\\"flesh and kelesio = \\\"lizard\\\".
Known material/holotype
PVPH-35, right postorbital, right quadrate, occip[ital condyle, vertebrae (partial ?third cervical, ?fourth cervical, caudal dorsal, five artculated midcaudals), three fragmentary cervical ribs, eight proximal hemal arches, eight pedal pre-ungual phalanges, two pedal ungual phalanges.
Diagnosis of genus (as for the type species)
Midium-sized theropod, distinguished by the following autapomorphies: quadrate having very reduced lateral condyle and border of articular surface formed entirely from medial condyle; cervical vertebrae having poorly-defined diapo-postzygapophysal laminae; caudal dorsal vertebrae with infraparapophysial laminae concave ventrally, parapophysis oriented ventrally; caudal dorsal vertebrae in central third of tail with distally expanded transverse processes bearing cranially and distally projecting processes; distal edge of caudal transverse processes slightly concave in midpart.
