Paranthodon (Nopcsa, 1929) > Paranthodon africanus (Broom, 1912) = Palaeoscincus africanus (Broom, 1912), Paranthodon owenii (Nopcsa, 1929) Anthodon serrarius (2) [partim] (Owen, 1876)
Named for specimens with \\\"flower-shaped teeth\\\" that Owen classified as dinosaurs under the genus Anthodon. The original referred material came from both Upper Permian and Late Cretaceous deposits, however, this included fossils of a pareiasaur (now Anthodon) and a stegosaur. Broom reclassified the stegosaur mandible as a species of Palaeoscincus in 1912. Nopcsa renamed the jaw Paranthodon.
