Holotype

MB R.1937, complete skull

Based on three of approximately 50 specimens from the Knollenmergel, Baerecke-Limpricht clay pit, Halberstadt, Sachsen-Anhalt, Germany. Additional refered specimens: MB HMN I, neural arches of a scaral vertebrae, the first to thirthy-fourth caudal vertebrae, left pelvic girdle, complete right hindlimb with e sigmoid femur; MB HMN XXV, partiall skull with a resonably complete skeleton lacking most of the tail.

Ventral medially directed, peglike process on middle of palatine; transverse sub-vertical sheet of bone between superior half of basipterygoid processes (Galton, 2001)

Several specimens (MCZ collection) including a nearly complete skeleton, skull, and two aprtial juvenile skeletons, from the Flemming Fjord Formation (Upper Triassic, Norian) of Jameson Land, East Greenland refered by Jenkins et al., 1994 to Plateosaurus engelhardti are considered by Galton, 2001 as belonging to Plateosaurus longiceps.
