Holotype
USNM 244535, an indeterminate ceratopian named by E.D. Cope in the U.S. Geological and Geographical Survey Annual Report, page 451, in 1874. The type material consists of a partial femur and ischium, and partial vertebrae from the South Platte River in Colorado.
The name of the exact geologic horizon where it was found is unknown, but it is believed to be the Denver Formation. It was collected in October, 1873. This dinosaur is possibly an early discovery of the genus Triceratops.
