Paranthodon (Nopcsa, 1929) > Paranthodon africanus (Broom, 1912) = Palaeoscincus africanus (Broom, 1912), Paranthodon owenii (Nopcsa, 1929) Anthodon serrarius (2) [partim] (Owen, 1876)
Paranthodon was named for specimens with \\\"flower-shaped teeth\\\" that Owen classified as dinosaurs under the genus Anthodon. The original referred material came from both Upper Permian and Late Cretaceous deposits, however, this included fossils of a [pareiasaur] (now Anthodon) and a stegosaur . Broom reclassified the stegosaur mandible as Palaeoscincus africanus in 1912 Nopcsa renamed the jaw Paranthodon
