Rinchenia mongoliensis (Barsbold, 1986 vide Barsbold, 1997) >> Oviraptor mongoliensis (Barsbold, 1986)

Skull and fragmentary postcranium. Rinchenia mongoliensis was about the same size as Oviraptor philoceratops , but the skull has a higher dome-like crest that incorporates the parientals in addition to the premaxillae, nasals and frontals. The postcranium is more lightly built and the cervical vertebrae are rather low in comparison with those of Oviraptor philoceratops . Its remains were found at Altan-Ula.

Differs from Oviraptor philoceratops in having a higher, dome-like crest and being more lightly built.

Based on a single, almost complete individual, previously refered to Oviraptor mongoliensis. Rinchenia mongoliensis is a large oviraptorid with a crested skull, the crest is long, extending along almost the entire skull roof. Partitials participate in its formation, in addition to the premaxilla, nasals and frontals. The sacrum includes six vertebrae and the tail 32. The ilium is deep with a convex, cranially rising dorsal margin, a pointed cranio-ventral process on the precetabular portion, and a postacetabular process that is half as deep as the preactabular process. The pre- and postacetabular processes are allmost equal in length.
