Typespecies
Saurornitholestes (Sues, 1978) > Saurornitholestes langstoni (Sues, 1978) > Saurornitholestes robustus (Sullivan 2006)
Saurornitholestes langstoni is known from three fragmentary specimens plus the holotype. The type consists of associated cranial elements and fragmentary postcranial material. The other specimens consists of cranial elements only.
The postcranial fragments are very simular to Deinonychus, but absence of diagnostic dromaeosaurid characters leaves the familial assignment probable but uncertified. The two associated teeth are indistinguishable from those of Deinonychus, though (Paul, 1984 1988) concludes that Saurornitholestes is a junior synonym of Velociraptor.
