Collected on July 9, 1937. The original paper was by Gilmore in U.S. Geological Survey Professional Paper 210-C in 1946. The type specimen consists mostly of a partial skull, frill, and jaw. It was subsequently referred to Tororsaurus utahensis by D.A. Lawson in 1976 in the Journal of Paleontology. In 1990 it was referred to Tororsaurus latus as a junior subjective synonym, by Dodson and Currie.
