Info

Coelosaurus (Leidy, 1865) [Anonymus but known to be Owen, 1854] > Coelosaurus affinis (Gilmore, 1920) > Coelosaurus antiquus (Leidy, 1865)

Fragmentary limb elements. Possible = Ornithomimus antiquus ?

Ornithomimus antiquus ? (Leidy, 1865) Baird & Horner, 1979 = Coelosaurus antiquus (Leidy, 1865), Dryptosaurus antiquus (Leidy, 1865) Gallagher, 1993, Struthiomimus antiquus (Leidy, 1865).

Dryptosaurus macropus (Cope, 1869) is a nomen dubium that includes Laelaps macropus and may be synonymus with Ornithomimus antiquus ?.

Work by T.R. Holtz Jr. indicates that Coelosaurus may not be an ornithomimid as determined by Baird & Horner (1979). Gallagher (1993) considered it a dryptosaurid. Since Leidy\\\'s generic name Coelosaurus is preoccupied, a replacement name will have to be created if this species is to be separated into its own genus.
