Collected by Cope in 1881. Cervical vertebrae considered to be the type specimen of Longosaurus.(type as Longosaurus (Welles, 1984) if the Longosaurus material is considered a separate species within the genus Coelophysis, its specific name is a junior homonym of Coelophysis longicollis (Huene, 1915)

This cervical vertebrae is a former part of AMNH 2701 the rest of the material has been renumbered in what is now 2701-2708 2715 & 2716. According to Kevin Padian 270l 2702 2704 & 2715 are Cope\\\'s type for Coelophysis longicollis.
