[D] Dystylosaurus edwini [sG] [T]
Describer
Jensen, 1985
Time
Jurassic Late Kimmeridgian Tithonian
Classification
Saurischia Sauropodomorpha Sauropoda Brachiosauridae
Diet
Herbivore
Fossilsite
Morrison Formation, Dry Mesa Dinosaur Quarry, near Delta, Colorado, US
Info
Genus - Typespecies
\\\"double-beamed (vertebra) lizard\\\"
Dystylosaurus edwini is based on a very large cranio-middle dorsal (BYU 4503, originally incorrectly presented as BYU 5750) from the Dry Mesa Dinosaur Quarry, near Delta, Colorado. It is also clearly brachiosaurid . Compared to the seventh dorsal forward from the sacrum of Brachiosaurus, the Distylosaurus centrum is shorter and has a smaller pleurocoel.
The transverse process is similarly directed straight outward but appears more massive, in part perhaps because most of the laminae in the former have been severely damaged and are largely restored in plaster.
The three major differences pertain to the spine, which in Dystylosaurus is broader transversely, much shorter axially, and noticeably lower than would be expected
