Info

Elrhazosaurus nigeriensis (Galton 2009) > Valdosaurus nigeriensis (Galton & Taquet, 1982)

Based on differences in horizon and form of the femur, Elrhazosaurus n. gen. is erected for the dryosaurid Valdosaurus nigeriensis Galton & Taquet, 1982 (Aptian, Niger) Valdosaurus nigerensis Galton & Taquet, 1982 is made the type species of the new genus Elrhazosaurus (from Elrhaz Formation) as E. nigeriensis (Galton & Taquet, 1982). This taxon is a dryosaurid, as indicated by the deep pit on the shaft level with the fourth trochanter, that has the following combination of characters : proximal end of lesser trochanter below that of greater trochanter, transversely wide raised area separating deep pit from base of fourth trochanter, extensor groove in distal view is deep and obliquely inclined postero-medially and overlapped anteriorly by the acute-edged medial condyle. In the humerus referred to the dryosaurid Elrhazosaurus (Valdosaurus) nigeriensis the flexor condyles are shallow, broad and almost flat, and separated by a very shallow narrow groove. This Cornet humerus is not a dryosaurid or a camptosaurid ; it represents a basal Euornithopod indet. In the dryosaurid Elrhazosaurus nigeriensis the extensor groove is obliquely inclined but, as it passes postero-medially, it is the medial condyle that is acute edged and overlapping the groove anteriorly.
