Originally considered a small theropod dinosaur (Huene, 1932). The holotype is an abraded distal end of an opalized femur, but the recovery of additional partial femora from the same horizon established the hypsilophodontid affinities of Fulgurotherium (Molnar and Galton ,1986). The lateral condyle of the femur is narrow. The greater and lesser trochanters are separated by a shallow cleft.
