Info

Genus - Typespecies - Skull

Genyodectes (\\\\\\\"the jaws that bite\\\\\\\")

A carnosaur known from a snout and lower jaw with teeth similar to those of Carnotaurus. Partial skull Huene (1926) suggested that a dorsal centrum from Neuquen, Argentina, might also pertain to this form.

Genyodectes is often referred to the Tyrannosauridae but shows none of the diagnostic characters of that family. It does not, as has somrti mes been claimed have premaillary teeth of D-shaped section (Stromer, 1934) as do have the Tyrannosaurids; indeed, it shows no diagnostic carnosaur characters and must be considered Theropoda Incertae Sedis.
