Genus - Typespecies
\\\"Mimic glyptodont shield\\\" Known from pelvic armor and various body armor. The San Diego ankylosaurid, Stegopelta and Glyptodontopelta are placed into the new subfamily: [Stegopeltinae].
USNM 8610 collected in 1916 by Gilmore, the specimen comes from the \\\"Ojo Alamo Sandstone\\\" (possibly from the Maastrichtian stage),Barrel Springs arroyo, San Juan Basin, New Mexico.
Originally published by Gilmore (1919) as \\\"genus and species indeterminate\\\". Lehman (1981) republished the material as a nodosaurid ankylosaur. It was designated a type by Ford in the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science Bulletin 17, page 171.
