INFO

Six species of Baioconodon denverensis (Gazin, 1941) including the type species are known of Tertiary age. The single possible Cretaceous record of the genus is that of Baioconodon sp. evidently representing a new but currently undiagnisable species. Phylogenetic affinities of major ungulate clades are now supported  by a host of cranial characters. (Prothero et al., 1988; Archibald, 1998) A reasonably complete but unpublished  skull is known for Puercan Baioconodon nordicus offering the potentional to test the hypothesis pf Prothero et al., (1998)
