Type species by monotype. Datta, 1981 did not allocate Kotatherium to family, but clearly regarded the genus as structurally intermediate between Kuehneotherium and Tinodon. A second species originally referred as Kothatherium yadagirii (Prasad & Manhas, 1997) is referred after a restudie to Paikasigudodon
