The Middle Jurassic deposits of the Junggar Basin in
Xinjiang are known
as the Wucaiwan Formation. The Wucaiwan Formation is composed of light
grey sandstones. The environments were fluvial to deltaic.The Wucaiwan
Formation is limited to the eastern part the Junggar Basin of
Xinjiang. The "Wucaiwan Formation" is now considered a part of the Shishugou Formation
