Compsognathus (Wagner, 1859) > Compsognathus longipes (Wagner, 1859) = Compsognathus corallestris (Bidar,
Demay & Thomel, 1972)
("pretty jaw") Compsognathus
was a small creature, the remains so far discovered indicate an animal
between 28in and 4,6 ft (70cm-1,4m) in length. The first remains of Compsognathus
to be discovered consisted of a beautifully preserved virtually
complete skeleton from the lithographic limestone of the
Riedenburg-Kelheim area of southern Germany (Bavaria).
Structures originally interpreted as dermal ossifications by Heune (1901) were interpreted as being immature eggs by
Griffiths (2000)
